“Merry Christmas” is an audio walk commissioned by a London-based collector for the Christmas of
2021, two years after I moved back to Taipei from UK. For the project, I designed two routes of the
same length and turns in London and Taipei, which are Oxford Circus Station to Soho Square, and
Taipei City Hall Station to Xinyi Ankang Park respectively. They both represent something similar to
me based on my personal experiences of the two cities. During the production, I walked the route in
Taipei, and collected the sound along the walk. Combining the sound collected, I narrated what I
saw along with walk, my memories of the two cities, the Christmas experiences I had, and the
process of revisiting London through Google Street View during the production. In the audio
walk, the collector was invited to walk the path in London while listening to my notes and the
sounds of Taipei. | ||
The project aims to create a dimension overlapped with Taipei and London, present and past,
reality and virtual, the listener and myself. It’s a semi-fictional, biographical manifesto of a previous
immigrant of London. |
